In mid-June over 20 Campus Summer Interns arrived here in Hampton Roads for hands-on ministry training. While most were from campus ministries right here in Virginia, some came from as far as England!

Their training included focused lessons and discipleship groups on different aspects of ministry, serving in various parts of the church, preaching, and of course - good old fashioned campus evangelism and bible studies to help save lost souls.

The internship concluded with an intern-led Sunday morning worship service for the entire Hampton Roads Church.

God truly blessed the faith, prayers, and hard work of the interns as we welcomed 2 new brothers and 1 new sister into the Kingdom of God!

Reggie (ODU), Aaron (ODU), & Brianna (William & Mary) were all baptized into Christ as the church watched joyfully.

To God be the glory for the inspirational way He has used these summer interns. Too bad we can't keep them!

Proverbs 14:23 says "All hard work brings a profit..."

Jenny Landaeta and her husband Federico are seeing the truth of that scripture in their lives. Jenny began reaching out to a Navy co-worker (Jerod Houser) about 3 years ago.

After many unfulfilled commitments by Jerod to come to church and be impacted by the Word of God, he and his wife finally did and began to earnestly study the bible. After much seeking and study, Jerod was baptized into Christ 3 weeks ago.

Not long after Jerod was baptized, his wife Shanika continued to study the bible with Jenny and other sisters from the Portsmouth area.

With much urgency, Shanika was also baptized this Sunday. Congratulations Shanika!

Bill Schisel (pronounced 'chisel' -- just with an 'S' on the front), never would have suspected his family's life was about to change when Ben & Emily Burnett came to his home while evangelizing in his neighborhood.

"We were about to turn around and go home, but decided we would talk to one more person", shares Ben Burnett.

Praise God they didn't!

Bill & Robin Schisel (and their 10-year old son Chris) were quickly endeared to the Burnett's and the other brothers & sisters in their Norfolk bible talk. They found they had much more in common than the bible since Bill is a retired Navy Chief and 2 of the brothers are also retired Navy Chiefs (Mario Portillo and Ken Ward)!

Feeling a need to be stronger in their walk with God, the Schisel's began bible studies with the Burnett's and came to deeper convictions about what it really meant to follow Jesus.

After a few moments of encouraging sharing Bill was baptized, then turned around and baptized his wife Robin into Christ at the West Region midweek service...

Each year we take up a voluntary collection to support missions work for over 50 of our sister churches in India.

Every person in the church gets involved in sacrificing to meet their personal giving goal. It's amazing to see how God multiplies our wealth and abundance here in the U.S. and uses it to save souls!

This year our goal was $262,500 with over $152,000 going to India.

God blessed the sacrifice of the saints and we were able to meet and exceed this year's goal!

Women's Day 2010 was a huge success!  Thank you to all who spent time and energy to make the event great.  God certainly worked through Lin Beaty and all the women who shared and performed to make March 14, 2010 a day worth remembering!
