Finally, It's Ok To Be A Fool...

FoolInvitePhotoweb.jpg

Have you ever noticed that the foolish things this world does are recognized and lifted up as examples to follow while the wise things God wants his disciples to do are ridiculed and laughed at?

"Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?" (1Co 1:20)

Well, start praying that God will use "the foolish things of the world to shame the wise" (1Co 1:27) as we kickoff this October's evangelism campaign "Fools For Christ"!

The campaign promises to challenge all of us to be in awe of our amazing God and a little more 'foolish' as we preach the Gospel to a lost world as a result.

Stay encouraged with the hottest Good News from the campaign via text message (stnd. text messaging rates apply).
Just enter your mobile number in the box below and you'll automatically be kept in the loop!

As a supplement to the campaign, we'll be reading "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan together as a congregation. Check out the book table to get your copy, or get "Crazy Love" online here.

An Easter Baptism

We were in Williamsburg for Easter weekend and we meet with the Peninsula region for Sunday service. What a blessing to be witness to an Easter Baptism! Congratulations to out new sister, Tiffany!

Mercy's Baptism

We have a new sister added to the Book of Life! Mercy Huff was baptized Tuesday night at the Rondorf's home. And what an amazing new sister we have!

Mercy's Baptism from Marva Harrell on Vimeo.

I remember the first time I met Mercy: She and her family just moved in across the street and had a little boy. She had just accedientaly cut her elbow in the bedroom, but all her first aid stuff was still packed away. So I ran back home, grabbed some bandaids and wipes, and rushed back to clean her elbow and patch it up. Only AFTER I put the bandaid on did I think to ask her name; Mercy. "How ironic," I thought.

Well, as the weeks went on, we got to know Mercy and her family VERY well. She would come over to Bible Talks and make the most amazing lasagna I've ever had. Before she even began studying the Bible, she would bring visitors; her daughter, daughter's boyfriend, and EVEN daughter's boyfriends' mother.

As we got to know her more and more, it was obvious that she has a huge heart for others. When my medical condition got worse, she made me dinner and brought it over. When my wife was sick, she brough soup and juice. And no matter what is going on in her life, she ALWAYS has a smile and warm hug.

I am very blessed to know her and to witness her baptism.

Thanks Doug & Jennifer!

Doug & Jennifer Lambert - Baltimore, MD

Doug and Jennifer Lambert (Evangelist & Women's Ministry Leader) from the Baltimore Church came and spoke for our 2009 Marriage Retreat this weekend.

Over 150 couples from all across the state of Virginia came for a great time to build up our marriages.  Doug & Jennifer's experience and insight into marriage was incredibly helpful for all of us who attended.

If by chance you weren't able to make it, here's the main lesson they did on Saturday. Listen and apply the principles...your marriage will change for the better!

Thanks For Making This Trip Possible!!!!

Teens In The UK!

We really want to thank the disciples here at home who made this trip possible by helping us to fundraise and/or donating $$ directly to our trip.   Without your sacrifice this trip would not have been possible.  This trip allowed us to serve at the camp, take time to really deepen our personal walk with God, and also forge relationships between the Hampton Roads church and the UK churches.  THANKS!!!
