                                           Lesson#3    Grade K-5

Scripture: “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God …” (Philippians 2:14-15a). (extra scriptures, Eph 4:29; Luke 6:45b)

1) Sing a song.

2) Pray for what you’re going to teach them and that they will understand the lesson.

3) Ice Breaker: Find a mirror and take turns using the mirror to look at each others’ tongues.
 - Where do words come From?
- Can you see where the bad and good words come from when you talk?
- Explain, “Even though our throats and mouths form the words, the words
really come from our heart and mind.

4) Our words are a reflection of what’s in our heart and mind. Since we control our tongue we
need to think before we speak.
- Role play a bad scene and good scene of something that might
have been a challenge in the family recently so that the children can see how they appear
when their complaining/arguing vs. being grateful/happy.

5) Ask the children to imagine that a blind man came to have dinner with them tonight.
- By only lessoning to their words, what would the blind man be able to say about them and the
   family?
- Are we a happy family? Complaining family? Encouraging Family? Selfish family? Arguing
   family? Loving family?

6) This week, encourage everyone to work hard not to complain or argue. When we see each other begin to
    complain or argue let’s remind each other about the blind man and that God always will take care of us;
there is no need to complain.

7) Don’t forget to reflect back to the family night throughout the week when there’s a
challenge or when you’re having a fun time together.
