                                                        Lesson #1 Grade 6-8

Scripture: “No one has ever seen God, but God the one and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known” (John 1:18).

1) Sing a song.

2) Pray for what you’re going to teach them and that they will understand the lesson.

3) Ice Breaker: Stand on a ladder or chair and stretch your arms out in front of you. Tell your family
members to look closely at the area between your hands and the floor and to tell you what they see.

4)  Share with the family that there is something important between your hands and the floor that we can’t
see. It’s gravity. Even though we can’t see it has an impact.

5)  Drop any kind of object like a ball or toy and ask them to wave their hands through the space the object
just passed through. Tell them just because they can’t feel or see gravity it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. It’s the effects of gravity we see, for example: the toy dropping to the floor or how we stay on the ground while the earth spins.

6)  Now try getting a bucket of water and spin it around going upside down and right side up. Again, what
holds the water in the bucket yet we don’t see it?

7)  Pass out some balloons and have every body blow them up. Explain that the power of the air is so
strong that it stretches the elastic of the balloons.  Though we can’t see the effects of the air it is there.
Release your balloon for fun and let it fly across the room showing them what the power inside of it is
     capable of.

8)  Also, you can get some magnets off the refrigerator and see how close you can get them to it before you
begin to feel the pull of the magnet. Explain, when the magnet sticks to the refrigerator we can’t see
the magnet force, but we can feel and watch its effects.

9)  Ask the family even though you can’t see it, do you believe in gravity, air, and magnetic force? Why or
     why not?

10) Ask your family how the experiments done tonight are like believing in God.

11) Read John 1:18 and explain that no one has seen God the Father. He made himself known through
Jesus. Just as gravity, air and magnetic forces are invisible, God is invisible. But also like the forces
we witnessed to tonight; God is real, powerful, and active in our lives.

12) Pray again and have a great evening together.

13) Don’t forget to reflect back to the family night throughout the week when there’s a
challenge or when you’re having a fun time together.
